Choosing the right floor plan for your family

June 2019

When it comes to choosing the right floor plan that will work for your family, there are a number of things to consider.

While choosing a home can be one of the most exciting times in your life, it can also be one of the most stressful. It is important to figure out how you and your family will use your home and how you will make it work with your lifestyle. Considering the size, shape, where the rooms are located and how all of this flows into the shared areas can make a difference.

So how do you know what to look for? Here are a few tips to help get you started with the process.

What will life look like in 5 years time? 10 years time?
Are you currently a two person household but thinking about making it three or four in the future? If you’re planning on building something that will eventually be your family home, looking forward to the future and ensuring your floor plan will work for this big change in your life is an essential step.

Find a floor plan that not only fits your block, but your needs too!
It’s always best to keep in mind your block size when looking at floor plans. While having an additional living area might seem appealing, you might need to compromise on your outdoor living areas. If you love a summer BBQ are you willing to make this sacrifice?

Don’t focus on just finishes, make your decision based on the layout.
While the finishes can be what makes your build exciting, don’t make this your primary focus. Your finishes can always be altered easily down the track, however making changes to your building structure will be time consuming and costly later on!

Know what your budget limits are.
While we all dream of having a large home, with multiple living spaces – sometimes our budget just doesn’t allow for it. Knowing how much you can afford and looking at floor plans that fit within your budget mean that you don’t get too attached to something that will break it.

The difference between a good floor plan and the right floor plan is finding the one that will ultimately work for your lifestyle. Can you picture yourself living in this space? If yes then you might have found the one for you.
