Why West Is Best! – The Many Advantages to Living in Melbourne’s Western Suburbs

September 2019

Moving to Melbourne’s western suburbs not only means that you will get to enjoy living in pristine natural surroundings but you will also benefit from a location that is quickly becoming a destination for living a happy and fulfilled life, along with being a sound investment.

The Western suburbs are expanding in terms of population, infrastructure, and amenities. Here’s why the West is getting a reputation for being the best region in Metro Melbourne and Victoria.

Close to Work and Recreation

The Western suburbs are still relatively close to the CBD – Exford Waters gives residents the option of a 40-minute drive to the CBD or Geelong. The West is also close to some of Victoria’s most popular day trips and tourist destinations, such as the historic Ballarat township, Wombat State Forest and Queenscliff on the Bellarine Peninsula.

Increasing Infrastructure Investment

The Victorian State Government is spending billions on infrastructure improvements for the Western suburbs. Over the next five years, the Government is spending $6.8 billion on the West Gate tunnel projects, which aims to provide quicker and safer journeys from the CBD to the West, along with a feasibility review on the high-speed rail link between Geelong and the CBD. Part of the $1.3 billion earmarked for rail and bus investment is being spent in the West. This means improved travel times from the West to the CBD and Eastern Melbourne.

A Hub for Community and Activity

The West is also gaining traction in community centres and activities. The Government is spending $140 million on projects such as the Geelong Convention and Exhibition Centre and improved visitor experiences along the Shipwreck Coast. $120 million is being spent around the state to support planning works for local sports ovals and facilities. $231 million is also being spent on future redevelopments of sports stadiums, including Footscray’s Whitten Oval. In short ‘West is best’…. and getting better.

Growing Amenities and Creature Comforts

The Exford Waters estate itself is also growing, with the expanded masterplan now providing an abundance of amenities with the construction of new community centres, activity centres, shopping, and entertainment either in planning or underway. Two future schools are also slated for development, ensuring even more quality educational opportunities for the next generation of residents.
