The best part of summer is spending long, warm nights in your backyard with your friends and family.
Is your garden party-ready yet?
If not, we’ve put together a checklist of quick and simple ways to make your backyard the perfect place to entertain this summer.
The Essentials
A little preparation goes a long way when entertaining.
To get your outdoor setting looking its very best, wash your tiles or decking with a high pressure hose. Not only will it look a million dollars, it’ll also be less of a hazard!
Give your outdoor furniture a quick clean before your guests arrive and invest in some quality coverings or tarp to protect your outdoor furniture.
Remove any pesky weeds from your lawn as well as the nasty prickles. Pop out some garbage and recycling bins in an obvious yet subtle location to save you the hassle of cleaning up later on.
Throw Some Shade
It might not be in your budget to have a professionally built pergola, gazebo or alfresco extension, but fear not! Hire or borrow a big, colourful, weighted umbrella instead- they can be very effective when grouped together. You could also consider a pop-up marquee or some printed linen for a more boho look. Be sure to leave a little space for your guests to sit back, relax and enjoy the sunshine!
Light It Up
Light up the dark with some charming yet inexpensive solar lights along your walkways or outdoor areas. For a real after dark atmosphere, twinkle lights are a great, affordable option to add a little sparkle to your yard. Be sure to choose solar options, so your guests don’t trip over any electrical cords. Bamboo torches are another reusable, movable option that add a hint of the tropics to your backyard paradise.
Find The Spark
What is the golden rule of life in Melbourne? Prepare for four seasons in one day. When it gets a little chilly, keep your guests toasty with a small fire pit, the perfect place to gather around at night.
Be sure to double-check the area is safe for young children to play in. You should also double-check the date on your BBQ gas bottle, making sure all connections are working safely. If a premium BBQ is a little out of your price range, a little Hibachi-style grill is a neat way to cook. Just plan a menu that rolls on through the event rather than a big meal served all at once.
It’s The Little Things
The key to being a good host? Make your guests feel at home and relaxed.
Keep it safe and sanitary. Set up a station (a side table borrowed from inside will do) with a nice-smelling hand sanitiser, wet wipes, a couple of sunscreens, natural bug spray, a large water dispenser and cups.
Invest in a few inexpensive throw rugs and pile them up nearby. Your guests can grab them to sit picnic-style or to rug up when the sun disappears. This way you won’t have to go hunting around for items you might not even have later when you should be enjoying their company.
But the most important tip of all? Have fun and enjoy showcasing your beautiful new home!
On behalf of the team at Exford Waters, we’d like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. 🎄🎉
